Last 2014 Monthly Overview

I decided to start doing the month overviews on full months. Which leaves me with half a month in 2014 to cover before moving forward.

Not a very good 2 weeks. I was sick all throughout December. I still did some workouts here and there, but usually not at full intensity.

Anyway, I’m feeling much better now and excited about a “fresh start” for the new year!

Monthly Overview Nov/Dec

Well, it’s better than last month.. but the last two weeks of being sick kind of ruined the scores again. I really want to get some consistency back.

I only just started with Wendler Cycle D, so no update on that. I’m actually thinking of forgetting about Wendler for a while… I kind of feel the need to focus a bit more on my conditioning as I feel that I am completely out of shape in that regards.

Wendler Cycle C and a double Month Overview

So, I actually took 2 months to finish Wendler Cycle C. My trip to Holland caused a big gap in my training schedule. I almost didn’t do anything while there. No Wendler, and almost no normal WOD’s either. So the monthly overviews are a bit mehhhhhhh, not so nice :p.

Let’s start with Wendler.

cycleC

Even though I took forever to finish this Cycle, I’m not too disappointed in the results. The first week was absolutely awesome, especially on the back squats. The 3×3 week was a bit of a let down after that, but the last week (which I started Oct 22 and finished Nov 25 lol) is not too bad, considering I had a couple of weeks of nothing in between.

It is still very slow progress.. but I’m going to stick to the number. But will hopefully keep the frequency up for Cycle D so that I finish the whole cycle in 3 weeks and not 2 months.

Then my month overview. Let’s start with mid September to mid October.

I think this was a pretty good month. 2 or 3 days rest in every week. I started going to the barbell classes this month, which also upped the workout time as I would do both a WOD and the barbell class.

So.. let’s go to the worst month ever….

Yikes! I know life getting in the way is a miserable excuse for being lazy.. but.. it did really get in the way!! Oct 17 and 18 I was traveling from Spain to Holland. I started pretty good in my first week in Holland. Going straight in on Sunday and Monday.. hitting the globo gym for some strength on Wednesday and finishing that week with a Saturday WOD. But after that it was just so hard to make the time / have the energy.

I will move back to Holland early next year (March).. so hopefully above overview will not be any indication of how my workout schedule will be there :p. Nah.. it was just a hectic time with family pretty much taking control over my schedule. I’m back on track now here in Spain (I traveled back on the 12th/13th/14th).

Wendler Cycle B and Month Overview

I almost forgot to post a monthly overview! Cycle B of Wendler is done. I’m in the deload week now.

wendlercycleb

I can say I’ve had some great moments and some disappointing ones in this cycle. I think I greatly improved on my squat in the last few weeks. But not happy at all with my shoulder press. I have not been able to feel comfortable and strong doing the press this whole cycle and it’s pissing me off. Bench and deadlifts are going great as I feel I can keep up with the rep goal’s set by my fancy excel sheet.

My last squat session was very disappointing, but I’m going to assume that that was just a bad day and not a reflection on my progress. (fingers crossed)

I still find it very hard to combine this program with normal crossfit sometimes. That’s why I missed a bench press day.. I chose to do a lot of bench press that week within a WOD, but that meant I didn’t have time to do the Wendler workout. I hope I’m not in the way of my own progress by mixing it up and not being very strict about the days (and days in between) I do the Wendler workouts.

Then my month schedule.

monthly2

A lot more WOD’s and a lot less Wendler. And still a lot of rest days too. I think next month will be better. Although I still workout more than I rest.. Because obviously all the workouts together are 58% versus 42% rest. But I think it should be more like 70% workout, 30% rest (which would be 5 days work vs 2 days rest per week).

Overall I did really feel like I was making progress this month. Feeling stronger, learning new skills (standing on one hand, pistol squats) and feeling fitter too! I still suck at cardio and at some point I will have to start spending more time on that. But for now it’s all about strength (y).

Wendler Cycle A and Month Overview

Wendler Cycle A is done (since I’m skipping the deload week). Andere here is an overview of my work.

WendlerCycleA

(Military is the shoulder press.)

I had a bit of spare time at work so I thought it would be fun to see how I divided my time over WOD’s, Wendler and rest in the past month.. it’s a bit depressing, because the rest days far overshadow anything else. But I blame that on my impromptu trip to Holland. Will definitely try my hardest to find a better balance this month though.

On the rest days it doesn’t necessarily mean that I was sitting on the couch all day, but I didn’t want to include very short or leisure activities (like 2km kayaks for example or an hour walks).
